Regenerative Medicine for Hepatitis

Hepatitis is characterized by inflammation of the liver. In some people, the underlying cause is an autoimmune attack in which the immune system destroys the body’s own tissues. (These individuals may also be dealing with other autoimmune diseases.) The primary cause of hepatitis, however, is viral infection (hepatitis A, B, and C) . Other common causes include excessive use of alcohol, overdoses of acetaminophen and other medications, and bacterial infections. Whatever the cause, it is important to arrest the progression of hepatitis. If left untreated, it may progress to cirrhosis, liver cancer, and complete liver failure.

Stem Cell Research and Hepatitis

Our approach to hepatitis centers around the potential benefits of adult stem cells. At the Newport Beach Stem Cell Treatment Center, our patients undergo a liposuction procedure performed by our board-certified surgeon. The small amount of fat that is removed is processed, and the stem cells are separated out. (Fat is the body’s richest source of stem cells.) These cells are then returned to the patient through an intravenous infusion. This all takes place during a three-hour outpatient procedure in our accredited surgical center.

At the Newport Beach Stem Cell Treatment Center, we are committed not only to quality care for our patients with hepatitis but also to stem cell research and the advancement of regenerative medicine. We are proud to be part of the only Investigational Review Board (IRB)-based stem cell treatment network in the United States that utilizes fat-transfer surgical technology. We have an array of ongoing IRB-approved protocols, and we provide care for patients with a wide variety of disorders that may be treated with adult stem cell-based regenerative therapy. Not all cases of hepatitis respond to stem cell therapy, and each patient must be assessed individually to determine the potential for optimal results from this regenerative process.
