Regenerative Medicine for Crohn’s Disease

Crohn’s disease is an inflammatory bowel disease that usually affects the intestinal tract. Symptoms, which can range from mild to severe, often come and go and include bloating, abdominal pain, diarrhea,  loss of appetite, and impaired absorption. As a result, weight loss and nutritional deficiencies are quite common. Scientists aren’t in agreement as to the exact cause of Crohn’s disease, but many experts believe it is an autoimmune  disease. Patients are typically treated with anti-inflammatory drugs, diet changes, and, in severe cases, surgery to remove damaged sections of the colon. However, there is growing enthusiasm for a breakthrough approach to Crohn’s disease.

Stem Cell Research and Crohn’s Disease

The Newport Beach Stem Cell Treatment Center’s protocol for Crohn’s disease harnesses the potential benefits of adult stem cells. At our Center, these rejuvenating cells are separated out from fat, which is removed from the patient’s body during a liposuction procedure. The stem cells are then concentrated and returned to the patient’s body via injection or intravenous infusion. This regenerative medicine protocol is an outpatient procedure, performed in our accredited surgical center by our board-certified surgeon and experienced medical team. It takes approximately three hours from start to finish.

This is an area of ongoing research, as reported in Science Daily:  “Clinical Trial Success for Crohn’s Disease Cell Therapy.” (Click here to read more.)

At the Newport Beach Stem Cell Treatment Center, we are committed not only to quality care for our patients with Crohn’s disease but also to stem cell research and the advancement of regenerative medicine. We are proud to be part of the only Investigational Review Board (IRB)-based stem cell treatment network in the United States that utilizes fat-transfer surgical technology. We have an array of ongoing IRB-approved protocols, and we provide care for patients with a wide variety of disorders that may be treated with adult stem cell-based regenerative therapy. Not all cases of Crohn’s disease respond to stem cell therapy, and each patient must be assessed individually to determine the potential for optimal results from this regenerative process.
